Sérgio da Silva Neves has born in Aveiro (Portugal). He studied at Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Aveiro na classe with Nelson Aguiar e Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas de Castelo Branco with Carlos Alves, where he finished the final exame in clarinet in both schools with a mark of 20/20 (maximum classification). He has finished his Master Diploma at Trinity College of Music (Londres), with Joan Enric Lluna, where has been assigned the prize “Excellence in Clarinet Studies”.
Sérgio has been honoured with different prices 1º st Prize in the Wilfred Hambleton clarinet competition 2008, (England), 1º st Prize FOLEFEST 2007, Chamber Music (Portugal), 1º st Prize in The Harold Clarke Woodwind Competition 2007, (England); 1º st Prize in I Concurso de clarinete Carreño 2006 (Astúrias / Spain); 1º st Prize Young Musicians, in the modality of Chamber Music, promoted by C.I.A. (Norway) 2006; Prize Prémio de Mérito Ensino Magazine (Portugal) 2006; 2º nd Prize Young Musicians RDP, (Portugal) 2006; 2º Prize in Concorsi Internazionali di Musica della Val Tidone, Chamber Music (ITÁLIA) 2006; Prize Fundação Engenheiro António Pascoal(Portugal) 2005; 2º nd Prize Young Musicians RDP, Chamber Music(Portugal) 2005.
He played as soloist with Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras (Portugal), Orquesta del Conservatorio Superior de Oviedo «Eduardo Martínez Torner” (Spain) and Orquestra Sinfónica da Póvoa de Varzim (Portugal). The Portuguese news paper “Público” distinguished him as “Figure of the Week” in June of 2006, and in the same year the news paper Gazeta do Interior distinguished him as “Young of the Year” with his chamber group (Des) Concertante Trio.
He has already performed in Portugal, Brazil, Norway, Italy, Holland, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Ireland, England and USA (Los Angeles and Michigan). He has been the principal Conductor in Santa Comba Dao Wind Band (Portugal) since 2004.
At the moment he performs regularly with Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra, teaches at University “Instituto Piaget Viseu” and play with Selmer Privilege clarinets.
